What a winter this has been!
Here in Vermont we had lots of snow;
the banks out back of the store might well be there until June.
Fortunately, we are starting to see some warmer, sunny days.
It was great weather for maple sugaring.
We have pure Vermont maple syrup from local farms in grades A-medium, A-dark and B.
Pick up one of our maple cookbooks for great ideas that go beyond pancakes and waffles.
The snowy winter meant lots of sewing for Marilyn.
New sections on our website now highlight some of her activities, including custom quilts, quilt repair and quilt finishing.
She has also had the opportunity to make some memory quilts -- quilts made from t-shirts and other clothing.
Look for a section on memory quilts coming to our website soon.
Marilyn is not the only quilter who has been busy...
more and more local women are bringing in their handmade quilts for sale.
We have quite a variety of styles and colors to choose from, each beautiful and unique.
The store is filling up with delightful new merchandise...
colorful table linens, handbags, and more.
Our book aisle keeps expanding with Vermont related guidebooks, fiction, and humor.
We have Newfane author Castle Freeman's latest book - Go With Me.
We are also expanding our selection of "green" books -- books about green living, self-sufficiency, reducing your carbon footprint, etc.
Other green ideas;
use our cloth shopping bags with the NCS logo when you grocery shop (paper? plastic? neither!)
and cloth napkins for everyday use instead of paper.
Plan ahead for our Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend sidewalk sales.
We always have lots of great items, from toys to table linens to Christmas decorations and more.
Stop by and see us when you are in Vermont!
You are always welcome here.

It's been a wild winter here in Newfane, but the warm March sun is slowly starting to melt away
the snowbanks, and there's definitely a touch of spring in the air.
We're bringing in lots of spring merchandise, so stop in for a visit.
Check out the latest updates on the quilt section of our website.
We've added pages featuring some of Marilyn's great work with custom quilts,
antique quilt
finishing, and quilt repair.

Happy New Year everyone! Winter is definitely here in Vermont. We had a significant
snowfall yesterday, and more snow today on New Year's Day. It's supposed to turn cold after today,
so the snow should stay powdery and perfect. It's a great time to visit Vermont!
All of our Christmas merchandise continues to be 50% off. Stock up on items
for next year, including boxed Christmas Cards, Santa figures, and ornaments.
Just a couple of reminders... We will be switching to our winter hours after this week (10:00-5:00 during the week, and
10:00-5:30 on the weekends), and we will be closed on Wednesdays through the month of January. This will give us time for
a bit of rest, and a chance to do some maintenance and repairs that we just can't do when the store is open.

It's been awhile since our last news entry! A lot has happened since then.
Our annual Heritage Festival on Columbus Day weekend was a wonderful event. The weather was perfect!
Definitely put it on your calendar for next fall.
Information can already be found out on their website at home.svcable.net/festival.
The leaves
were a little late in changing this year, but eventually provided their usual spectacular display of color.
Winter has arrived in Newfane! Mother Nature dropped about 8 inches of snow on us yesterday, so the Newfane
Common with it's lighted tree and luminaria looks like a winter wonderland.
People are already telling us that the skiing is great on the local slopes.
Lastly, we're doing a repeat of our Countdown to Christmas campaign. Keep an eye on the front page of
our website for a description of the current specials.

Hard to believe, but Columbus Day Weekend is almost here! The weather is
looking to be fantastic; sunny and daytime temperatures in the 70's. This weekend is,
of course, the 35th Annual Newfane Heritage Festival. We'll be out on the Common,
selling our fudge and delicious fudge-dipped apples. And, the store's open all weekend,
with our 20% off quilt sale in full swing.
The sale runs through October 8th, with all our in-stock quilts, pillows and throws
at 20% off. Make sure to stop by and say hello!

By the way, our business association is putting on a concert and picnic on the Common on Sunday at 5 PM.
Yet another reason to visit Newfane!

New at the Newfane Country Store -- sewing notions!
We are now carrying some basic sewing notions -- thread, needles, quilters tape, rotary cutter blades, scissors,
pins, etc.
I would love to also carry fabric but there is just no room.
This weekend is the Strolling of the Heifers; one of the biggest summer events in Southern Vermont.
Coming in July - the 5th annual Newfane Community Yard Sale on Saturday July 7th.
Lots of fun summer events here in Vermont... hopefully you can come for a visit!

We finally seem to have pushed winter out for good. Most of the snow has melted, and the trees and lawns are starting to green up.
Last weekend we received seven beautiful new quilts from local quilters -- traditional designs done in rich colors.
Additionally, we now have handmade fabric wall hangings that depict scenes from Vermont; maple sugaring, Camel's Hump, Mt. Mansfield and more.
These are done by a talented seamstress from Charlotte, VT.
She can also do custom scenes from your photo!
Stop by the Guilford Welcome Center on Interstate 91 just as you enter VT from Massachusetts and see the display of Dominic Tagariello's incredible wooden vehicles.
These are also pictured on our website in the
Vermont Crafts section.
This weekend is the spring water release -- kayakers and canoers should have a great time on the West River with all the water that is running.

Okay... did I say there were signs of Spring around?
Life (and weather) in Vermont is never dull;
we had about a six inches of heavy snow last night! Spring skiing anyone?
New in the store this week:
adorable children's watches; more brightly colored spring linens;
relaxing CD's from The O'Neill Brothers, including two volumes of wedding music.
Happy Easter!
